This month, we’re talking all about our Raspberry Vinegar Toner. Today, we’re going even further, and focusing on raspberries themselves… this magic little fruit is one of your skin’s favorite ingredients!
Here are our top four reasons for WHY raspberries are an amazing fruit to include not just in your diet, but in your skincare routine as well.
1. Raspberries can help prevent and heal damage from UV exposure
If you didn’t know already, exposure to the sun can create some of the most permanent and harmful damage to your skin. Raspberries contain the antioxidant ellagic acid, which may help prevent skin damage from UVA and UVB exposure. Ellagic acid prevents the destruction of collagen in damaged skin cells, helping the skin retain its youthful appearance.
While we still recommend always wearing a specifically stated SPF of over 20-30, some studies have also shown that raspberry seed oil can have natural sun protectant abilities. Additionally, raspberry seed oil contains Vitamin A, which is helpful for repairing sun damage.
2. Ellagic acid may also help prevent skin cancer
Ellagic acid is a phytonutrient that makes up about 65% of the total antioxidant activity in a serving of raspberries. The best part? It is known to help prevent the growth of cancer cells! So, while ellagic acid will be preventing damage by UV rays, it can helps help to stop the growth of any forming or living cancer cells in the skin.
3. High essential fatty acid content helps repair skin barrier and fights off inflammation
Raspberry seed oil especially has a high essential omega 6 fatty acid content! Essential fatty acids are essential to build and repair the skin’s moisture barrier. Omega 6 fatty acid, in particular, plays an important role in maintaining the skin’s structural integrity, including stimulating a healthy anti-inflammatory response, moisture retention, and protection from free radical damage. Moisturized skin that fights off inflammation? Our favorite combo!
4. Vitamin C helps fight signs of aging
Raspberries are also a rich source of Vitamin C, which is known to reduce the appearance of age spots, discoloration, fine lines and wrinkles! Vitamin C increases the production of collagen, which retains the youthful looking glow of the skin and helps prevent and reduce the appearance of wrinkles! Try mixing or blending actual raspberry juice or fruit into your chlorophyll mask, or mix them with yogurt for a berry twist on your DIY face mask!
