How many skincare products do you currently own that have water in the ingredients list? We would bet….a TON. It may even be the first ingredient listed, huh?
One thing is for sure – WATER is amazing. There’s not enough of it in the world. You should drink as much as you can, because there are millions out there who simply don’t have this at their disposal (enter our partners Pure Madi! Hey guys!)
Does that mean that you should be applying it to your skin? Not really. Actually, not at all. Unfortunately, water doesn’t do much for our skin. In the morning, it’s a great splash that helps wake us up and wash away some impurities, but that’s pretty much where it ends.
As far as moisturizing goes, water is simply an ingredient that makes you FEEL like you are absorbing the product. What it is actually doing is drying your skin out (very quickly), and making you need more ACTUAL moisture. Not to mention, for some *ahem* manufacturers out there, it’s a cost effective (read: cheaper) way to fill up a bottle. Yikes.
As you can see from our products, water is non-existent in our line with the exception of our rosewater toner (which is just rose…water!). We believe that by using real, USDA certified organic ingredients such as virgin coconut oil, virgin avocado oil, virgin grapeseed oil, and other super clean ingredients, we are giving you guys all that you need.
We can’t tell you how many times we come across consumers who are hesitant to try our oil-based products because they are so used to watery-based lotions. When we come across these conversations, we know that we still have so much work ahead of us. We feel that it’s our job to help educate consumers on what ingredients actually help your skin, and what ingredients are just “fillers”. Water is a filler, and that’s a fact.
P.S. For any of you who are still hesitant about using oils on your face, read our post on why oils are good for the skin!
